Lost Post 1: Rock on

Uudessa eteisessa: From Kesä10 - lost postcards

To make the point that I really could maybe have, probably, at a stretch, if I really wanted to, have found a thing or two to scrape together, to fabricate (in the very best way) the merest hint of a few lines of a post, over the last, oh let's say, six months, I'm going to have to own up to the fact that we bought, decorated and moved home back in kesäkuu (that's June for anyone who hasn't changed their date and time settings to Suomi on their computer).

Of course one advantage loss you do have of course is missing out on the excruciating exciting ... kävin K-Rautassa taas ostamaan valkoista maalata ... type blog posts.

So instead of living on the very edge of Helsinki (as in periphery rather than cutting) we are now rock solid in the centre, or at list on the hill above the centre, of stadi. At the expense of any non-bilingual peeps with a lack of knowledge of Helsinki's geography that last sentence contains a rather feeble pun giving away that that means the Kallio area, which transliterates as The Rock. This also means that instead of watching the oravat and tikkat from the kitchen window I now get to see the top of a bike shed and the back of the neighbouring 5/6/7 storey rather yellow buildings around our courtyard. The most exciting wildlife here are the workers from the lastenpäiväkoti downstairs taking a fag break...

All the flat windows are also north facing, good in the summer to cut down on overheating, but as you might imagine, a tad gloomy later in the year. Despite that it wasn't until we finally got some curtains up after a month that the morning sun hitting the yellow walls of the opposite buildings at 4am stopped rudely awakening me. And that wasn't our only problem on moving in... more on that next time.
