Normal service will be resumed shortly... ehkä
I've heard it said (by TV de-clutterers usually) that if you put something in a box, and don't get it out again for six months then you don't need it any more. So by that standard I should be deleting this blog (and my facebook, twitter and defunct email accounts). On the other hand if you've ever gone through an old box of things you had in storage and had the joy of rediscovering an old book, memento or childhood toy you may have your doubt's about that. 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' after all. Maybe it's the summer ending, but I think I'm starting to feel the blogging bug stirring.

S5000: Rest in Pieces

R.I.P 03.2004 - 07.2009: It took some Fine Pix
It's a lonely feeling going out without it to shows and events (especially on bright and photogenic days). But my snappily named FinePix S5000 had a long (for a piece of consumer electronics that is), hard life - having taken it's first picture on 1/03/04 - I guess it was the first thing I saw after I unpacked the box, loaded the batteries and slotted in the memory card.

Despite it's upgrade to a 1GB xD card last year, it's passing comes as no surprise: after it's watery escapade in Tallin the flash gave up the ghost, and it's auto-focus became geriatricly unresponsive. But it served me well recording thousands of happy memories, buildings, scenery and sites - and the occasional inside of a bag, blurred back-of-head and substandard brickwork detail; but it's crowning glory was shots for the 'This is not a building' competition - those and many others live on as a fitting tribute for my little photographic friend.
Hmmm - I wonder what I'll get for my birthday next month?

Reflections: One in a million

| From Finland summer 08 vol 2 |
This was Pyhäjarvi (holy lake) near Kesälahti one day this summer when we were at the mökki: I remember it was very calm and peaceful sitting on the wooden landing stage, watching the clouds reflected in the glassy water. I took some video too but it doesn't really capture the feeling of being there.
I would like to be somewhere like this today...
